SUSTAINABLE LAKE COUNTY
Project Overview
Sustainable Lake County is an exploration of environmentalism and sustainability in Lake County, Illinois through the lens of the arts and humanities. We will collaborate across the college and with the Lake County community to explore how we, as Lake County residents, can live more sustainable, just, and socially conscious lives that preserve our environment while cultivating the diverse communities within our region. Projects will focus on using the arts and humanities to provide a platform for those who have been historically under- or unrepresented to share their stories about their changing landscapes in order to foster ecological and social justice.
Sustainable Lake County consists of a series of collaborative events or projects that will take place over the 2023-2024 academic year, led by Voices of Lake County committee members.
We will explore these sub-topics:
Addressing the responsibility for environmental repair as individuals, institutions, and corporations
Using the humanities and arts to better understand the significance of sustainability and climate change in Lake County
Viewing climate change through the lived Experiences of Lake County residents
Highlighting local sustainability initiatives
Increasing awareness of sustainability through performance & exhibition
Engaging communities in sustainability through workshops, projects & discussions
Examining the impact of sustainability on urban areas in Lake County
Exploring sustainability in the classroom
